Do you like what we stand for? Do you have an idea?

Northkind Press is open to thoughtful creative conversations with writers, illustrators, bookshops, libraries, schools, community groups and collaborators.

We are interested in stories with heart, humour, purpose and grit. We are especially drawn to work that says something meaningful without shouting at the reader.

What are we interested in?

Writers

We want to hear from writers whose work fits our values and feels close to what we are building.

We are drawn to stories that are:

interesting from the first page
emotionally honest
character-led
meaningful without being preachy
distinctive in voice
carefully written
clear about who they are for

We are open to different forms and age ranges, but we are especially interested in stories that carry a strong idea at their centre.

A message is welcome... a sermon is not.

What to send to us

If you would like to introduce your work, please send:

a short cover note
your name and contact details
the title of your project
the intended age range or readership
a short pitch of no more than 150 words
a brief note on why you think it fits Northkind Press
a sample of the work

For picture books, please send the full manuscript.

For longer work, please send the first chapter or opening extract.

Please do not send large attachments without checking first.

Illustrators

We are interested in hearing from illustrators whose work has warmth, character and emotional range.

We especially like illustration that feels hand-made, expressive and full of small details.

Booksellers and libraries

We would love to hear from independent bookshops, libraries and reading organisations interested in stocking, sharing or discussing Northkind Press titles.

Our books are created with readers, families, and shared reading in mind.

We are happy to discuss:

Schools, community groups, charitable organisations

Community is close to our hearts here at Northkind. We want to make a positive difference in the world, and we know that words are a great way to do that. Developing a love of reading in children is essential, and telling community stories in novel ways helps children AND adults realise their power.
